Sales Action Plan/ Plan de Accion en Rebajas

Sales are here and soon they will be crossing the pond to Europe too. For those like me, who could use a "plan" to not get distracted or overwhelmed, this is a start. Based on some of the upcoming trends for this Fall, I've chosen some pieces on sale that we can show off now and ride out until December. We'll add some tights here, a sweater there, a pair of boots...What a sweet feeling it is, five months later, knowing that you are so on trend, to say you bought it on sale when someone asks: "Where did you get your dress?" Hey, who doesn't want two for one?

Ya aquí empezaron las rebajas, aquellas que en unas semanas cruzarán el charco hacia Europa. Para las que como yo, necesiten un mínimo plan de acción para evitar distracciones y/o agobios (de los nervios que me dá ver todo a esos precios), he elegido algunas piezas que podemos ponernos ya y que las pasarelas y pre-colecciones nos aseguran estarán con nosotras hasta Diciembre.

Un dos por uno de toda la vida, que sólo necesitará de pequeñas variaciones, unas medias por aquí, un sweater por allá, unas botas por el otro lado... pero la base está ahí y además, la compramos a un precio estupendo! Qué bien sabe decir eso después de un par de meses, sabiendo además, que vas a la última, o no?

The Power of Accessories (and L.A.)/ El Poder de los Accesorios (y L.A.)

We were so excited when Billie (in the middle) was selected as a screenwriter finalist in the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Even more so, when Morgan and I got to join her. Breakfast in Rodeo Drive, catching some rays between Santa Monica and the Beverly Wilshire's pool , dinner in Melrose, cocktails at the Roosevelt, I mean seriously...can we stay here?

Getting back to fashion, which is the real purpose of this blog, we had an important question: What do we wear to a black tie event in L.A?

Answer: Black is one of this years' Summer colors, finally!

Hace un par de semanas estuve en Los Ángeles en el Festival de Cine de Beverly Hills. Mi amiga Billie, fue seleccionada como finalista, entre otros, escritores de películas. Y para allá nos fuimos Morgan y yo, cual estrellas de cine. Desayunos en Rodeo Drive, tomando el sol entre Santa Mónica y la piscina del Beverly Wilshire, cenas en Melrose, copas en el Roosevelt... nos podemos quedar aquí para siempre, por favor?

Pero volviendo al tema moda que es el que aquí nos interesa: que nos ponemos para un evento formal en Los Ángeles? 

Respuesta: Por fin indultan el negro para el verano, y negro fue!

 

But this post is not about black, it's actually about the importance of accessories and my firm belief  that one should "invest" in them. And I am using the word investment in the most literal possible way: use of money for future profit. And I would add, for infinite profit. They can be worn with millions of different outfits and they have the power to transform everything without ever looking the same. 

Pero este post no va del color negro, sino de la importancia de los accesorios y mi firme convicción de que se debe "invertir" en ellos. Y digo invertir, en su más puro significado: colocación de capital para ganancia futura. Y yo añadiría, infinita. Y la razón es simple: tienen el poder de transformar todo lo que tocan y nunca parecer los mismos.

And here is the trick: a) Invest in neutral colors with a pop: and those are, metallics. They are already a classic and you would never go wrong. Choose your favorite: yellow gold, silver, or the new upcoming rose gold. I am so glad that Adri made me buy this gold python Gucci sandals (wore them last year in the wedding post). They've made even slouchy, jodhpur pants look especial.

And thank you Mom, for the gorgeous Gucci bag you gave me for Christmas!

b) Buy them on sale: take advantage of the sales periods to get these pieces. That's when I got my sandals. It makes you feel less guilty for buying something expensive with no set date to be worn. But trust me, you will. Think long-term.

So now, let's put the theory to the test: would you believe me if I told you I paid 50 bucks for my dress?

Y aquí está el truco: a) Invierte en colores neutros: los metálicos ya lo son y NUNCA pasarán de moda: plateado, dorado o el nuevo oro rosa, elige el que más te guste. Menos mal que le hice caso a Adri cuando me insistío en que comprara estas sandalias de Gucci. Hasta con unos pantalones jodhpur quedaban de muerte. Y gracias Reina Maga, por mi bolso de Gucci estas Navidades!

b) Aprovecha las rebajas para estas cosas: siempre se nos acaban yendo los ojos a las tendencias del momento y olvidamos lo que podíamos denominar, clásicos. Piensa a largo plazo. Es el momento perfecto para invertir en accesorios de calidad que tendremos para siempre, que usaremos en múltiples ocasiones y que marcarán la diferencia.

Y llegó el momento de la verdad, la prueba del algodón, alguien me cree si le digo que el vestido me costó 50 dólares?

La Estación Impropia / The Unseasonable Season

Ya me han llegado noticias de que en Madrid está pasando lo mismo que en Chicago: un día calor, al día siguiente frío, al otro lluvia y al otro ...ni se sabe ya! Y de ahí, que en medio de tanto color y tendencias veraniegas nos encontremos ante un nuevo fenómeno que he decidido denominar: "la estación impropia".

Lo positivo: hablamos de piezas simples, versátiles, atemporales con clase y estilo, que "deben" formar parte de cualquier fondo de armario que se precie. Perfectas también para los "Casual Fridays" que empiezan en breve. Invierte en ellas! Elige tejidos suaves, con caída y de calidad, que aunque las piezas sean sencillas, marquen la diferencia.

Look 1- Todo al negro: poco que añadir. Las dos "s" de la perfección: simple y sexy. Las sandalias de rejilla y el brazalete, son el toque perfecto.

Look 2- Negro + Chambray: la camisa vaquera le quita sobriedad al simple pitillo negro y lo convierte en trendy. Me tomé la libertad de sustituir los salones negros por éstos con bordados de color, que me encantan. Son de la colección exclusiva que Caroline Issa diseñó para L.K.Bennett, la marca inglesa que es una de las favoritas de Kate Middleton (todavía quedan algunos!)

Look 3- Blanco + Gris: una de mis combinaciones favoritas, simple pero con clase. Y el reloj de hombre de acero, un detalle CON importancia.

I've already heard that Madrid is having the same obnoxious weather as Chicago: one day it's hot, the next it's cold, then it's rainy...who knows anymore! This is exactly the reason why I've decided to write this post among so many colorful Summer trends. I have even come up with a name for this new phenomenon: "the unseasonable season".

 

The silver lining: we only need simple, versatile and functional pieces which will always be stylish and should be a  must in any woman's closet. They would also create the perfect outfit for the soon upcoming Casual Fridays. Invest in them! Choose soft fabrics, with a soft hand and high quality because even though the pieces are simple, they will make a difference.

 

Look1 - Bet it all on black: I don't really have a lot to comment on this one, as we are really talking about the two "s" of perfection: simple and sexy. The cage sandals and the golden bracelet are the ideal touch.

 

Look 2 - Black + Chambray: the washed denim shirt (Madewell has countless options) immediately revamps an everyday black skinny jean.  I took the liberty of substituting the black pumps from the picture for ones with some more color. I absolutely love this pair from the capsule collection that Caroline Issa designed for L.K.Bennett, a British brand that might sound familiar because it's among Kate Middleton's favorites.

 

Look 3 - Grey + White: one of my favorites combinations - it's just classy. The stainless  steel men's watch is an important detail.

El "Mono" a Debate / Debating Rompers

I never knew how I felt about rompers...but now that they are on the streets and in the stores, we should probably give them a second thought. They are cute, I know, but for me they are not as easy to wear or to pull off in an elegant way.  Not as easy as romper lovers proclaim, anyways. Not to mention how difficult it can be to wear a one-piece in certain situations we all know about..

But let's focus on the fashion aspect of the garment. They are definitely more unique, different and sophisticated when compared to a summer dress for example (not all dresses, of course). They make me think of that relaxed glamour that exudes from the pictures taken at Studio 54.

Add a wedge or a high heel and you can go from day to night surprisingly easy...it's unbelievable. Always add gold accessories (I don't really know why but that is how I always imagine them): hoops and wrists full of bangles or a cuff...sexy.

I have certainly convinced myself I want one...maybe two...one for the day and another one for the night...Here are my favorites! I already bought the one from Mango, I still need to decide about the one I want for nighttime wear. I'll keep you posted.

Nunca he tenido muy claro qué siento por los monos...pero ahora que parecen estar por todas partes y en todas  las tiendas, igual debemos darle una vuelta a este sentimiento. Escribo según pienso en alto: Y es que es verdad que son "monos", pero no me parecen tan fáciles como dicen aquellas que los adoran: ni de llevar , ni de combinar elegantemente y eso, sin nombrar las dificultades que en ciertas situaciones acarrea, el que sean una sola pieza...

Centrándonos únicamente en el aspecto moda, tengo que decir que me parecen originales. Hay algo en esa única pieza terminada en short que lo diferencia y le dá una sofisticación que no tiene por ejemplo, un vestido (no todos, claro). Me trasladan un poco a los 70, a ese glamour relajado que se vé en las fotos de Studio 54. Con unas plataformas o taconazos lo llevas de la tarde a la noche con una facilidad pasmosa y siempre los imagino con accesorios dorados: aros y muchas pulseras o un brazalete...sexy.

Yo ya me he convencido a mí misma de que quiero uno...igual dos...uno de día y tarde...otro de noche. Mis preferidos, aquí te los dejo! Ya el de Mango lo tengo, me queda animarme con el modelito nocturno, ya les contaré.

No es novedad, se acerca el verano y hay un look imprescindible, de esos que nunca fallan y que nunca fallarán por los siglos de los siglos...el look marinero.

Yo, que no me considero nada clásica, soy una enamorada de todo lo que tenga que ver con él. Y que es lo primero que nos viene a la mente? Las rayas. Las podemos combinar con cualquier cosa porque siempre tendrán ese aire tan chic.

Pero es hora de ir más allá, no nos limitemos sólo a las rayas cuando creemos un look marinero; abramos nuestra mente a cualquier combinación perfecta de blanco y azul marino, añadamos anclas en camisetas o accesorios, toques de dorado en botones, sandalias, pulseras, collares y demos el toque final con labios rojos o bolso o zapatos...

It's nothing new, as Summer finally approaches, there is a key look, a classic look that has never left us and will never leave...the sailor look.

I have never thought of myself as a "classic" person but I am totally in love with anything that has to do with this oceanic style. I know the first things that comes to mind are stripes, no matter how you combine them because you will always have that chic allure.

But let's expand our imagination and go further when it comes to a sailor look: any perfect combination of white and blue, let's add anchors printed on tops or as accessories, charms a touch of gold almost anywhere...but what if our buttons were gold? And please, please do a final hint of red on your lips, bag, sandals...anywhere.

Sooo.... I was in Miami this weekend for Katelyn's Bachelorette's and these were two of my chosen outfits to basically...partyyyy. The first one could be described as "Easy breezy stylish" and the second one is more like "Sweet sophistication".

 

Since a couple of the things that I had on are from last year, I tried to find the closest alternatives to purchase right now. Hope you like them!

Estuve en Mimi este fin de semana para la despedida de soltera de Katelyn y estos fueron dos de mis modelitos elegidos para básícamente...no parar de bailar! Yo describiría el primero como sencillo, cómodo y estiloso, mientras que el segundo es más dulce sofisticación.

 

Como algunas de las cosas que llevo son de años anteriores he intentado buscar algunas alternativas que se pueden conseguir ahora mismo. Espero que les inspiren!

 

P.D.: Estas son las sandalias de Burberry Prorsum que me puse las dos noches y de las que estoy enamorada, pero son del año pasado y ya no se dónde encontrarlas. Simplemente, tenía que enseñárselas porque son preciosas. Espero que de todas formas, les guste mi nueva opción, los ingredientes clave: que aporten color y sean divertidos.

P.S.: These are the Burberry Prorsum shoes that I wore with both outfits and which I am in love with, but they are from last year so you can't find them anymore. I just had to show them to you guys because they are gorgeous. Hope you like my new option, the main ingredients: colorful and fun!

Quiero ser Brigitte Bardot / I want to be Brigitte Bardot



Este verano, quiero ser Brigitte Bardot... en morena. Desde su pelo a su maquillaje pasando por su estilo, lo quiero todo. Esa mezcla que reinó desde mitad de los años 60 hasta comienzo de los 70 entre femenino, sexy y bohemio es mi preferida para el verano.
 

Y teniendo ya yo esta idea en la cabeza (le había llevado la foto de Brigitte a mi peluquero para cortarme las capas y el flequillo a su imagen y semejanza), cae en mis manos el nuevo catálogo de la marca americana Free People. En principio quise el catálogo entero, pero pude controlar la emoción y finalmente elegir mis preferidos (ya tengo la camisa larga con bordados coral y el mini vestido con bordado azul :-)

 

Espero que al igual que a mí, las fotos les sirvan de inspiración, si no, para adoptar un estilo determinado para toda la temporada, por lo menos para  idear algún modelito que otro en esos días de calor que por fin se avecinan.

 

Ya sólo me queda que Sara me enseñe a maquillarme los ojos ahumados... casi lo tengo, biennnnn!

This summer, I want to be Brigitte Bardot...her brunette version, I mean. I want her hair, her make up and her characteristic style... I want it all. This mixture, so popular during the mid 60's to the early 70's between feminine, sexy and bohemian is my favorite for the summer time.

With all this in mind ( I had already taken with me a picture of her to my hair stylist for her layers and bangs), the new Free People summer catalogue falls in my hands, and that was it. At first I wanted the whole catalogue but thankfully I came back to my senses and was able to pick some favorites. ( I already have the off white blouse with the coral embroidery and the white mini dress with the blue embroidery too :-)

I hope you can also feel inspired by these gorgeous pictures and that they give you some ideas for at least, a couple of summer outfits. I get it, I get it, not everyone has to want to be her.

Now I only need my friend Sara to teach me how to do that smoky eye and I'm almost there, yeahhh!!!
