La Estación Impropia / The Unseasonable Season

Ya me han llegado noticias de que en Madrid está pasando lo mismo que en Chicago: un día calor, al día siguiente frío, al otro lluvia y al otro ...ni se sabe ya! Y de ahí, que en medio de tanto color y tendencias veraniegas nos encontremos ante un nuevo fenómeno que he decidido denominar: "la estación impropia".

Lo positivo: hablamos de piezas simples, versátiles, atemporales con clase y estilo, que "deben" formar parte de cualquier fondo de armario que se precie. Perfectas también para los "Casual Fridays" que empiezan en breve. Invierte en ellas! Elige tejidos suaves, con caída y de calidad, que aunque las piezas sean sencillas, marquen la diferencia.

Look 1- Todo al negro: poco que añadir. Las dos "s" de la perfección: simple y sexy. Las sandalias de rejilla y el brazalete, son el toque perfecto.

Look 2- Negro + Chambray: la camisa vaquera le quita sobriedad al simple pitillo negro y lo convierte en trendy. Me tomé la libertad de sustituir los salones negros por éstos con bordados de color, que me encantan. Son de la colección exclusiva que Caroline Issa diseñó para L.K.Bennett, la marca inglesa que es una de las favoritas de Kate Middleton (todavía quedan algunos!)

Look 3- Blanco + Gris: una de mis combinaciones favoritas, simple pero con clase. Y el reloj de hombre de acero, un detalle CON importancia.

I've already heard that Madrid is having the same obnoxious weather as Chicago: one day it's hot, the next it's cold, then it's rainy...who knows anymore! This is exactly the reason why I've decided to write this post among so many colorful Summer trends. I have even come up with a name for this new phenomenon: "the unseasonable season".

 

The silver lining: we only need simple, versatile and functional pieces which will always be stylish and should be a  must in any woman's closet. They would also create the perfect outfit for the soon upcoming Casual Fridays. Invest in them! Choose soft fabrics, with a soft hand and high quality because even though the pieces are simple, they will make a difference.

 

Look1 - Bet it all on black: I don't really have a lot to comment on this one, as we are really talking about the two "s" of perfection: simple and sexy. The cage sandals and the golden bracelet are the ideal touch.

 

Look 2 - Black + Chambray: the washed denim shirt (Madewell has countless options) immediately revamps an everyday black skinny jean.  I took the liberty of substituting the black pumps from the picture for ones with some more color. I absolutely love this pair from the capsule collection that Caroline Issa designed for L.K.Bennett, a British brand that might sound familiar because it's among Kate Middleton's favorites.

 

Look 3 - Grey + White: one of my favorites combinations - it's just classy. The stainless  steel men's watch is an important detail.

"Pero Diana, a dónde vas tan temprano con las esmeraldas de la reina de Inglaterra puestas?". Eso dijo mi madre, que vino a verme a Chicago, una mañana cuando salía hacia el trabajo con una collar del tamaño de Tejas. Pues sí, las llevo y me encantan y además ya me he comprado unos cuantos. El más es más a veces funciona si sabes cómo aplicarlo. El maxi collar se ha convertido en uno de mis trucos para elevar mis piezas básicas a otra dimensión. Además con los colores que tienen, siento que me iluminan la cara sin necesitar nada más. Siempre se ha dicho, burro grande ande o no ande. Éste no anda pero queda monísimo!

Diana, where are you going this morning wearing the emeralds of the Queen of England? That's exactly what my mom asked me when she saw me heading to work with a necklace the size of Texas on, during her last trip to Chicago. And she was right, I am loving the statement necklace trend so much that I already own a few. Sometimes more really is more if you now how to apply it.

 

The statement necklace is one of my newest tricks to elevate my basic pieces to a whole other level. I feel that  the colors in them brighten my face without needing anything else. Buy one and try it!

Typically Unpredictable

 

Here in Chicago, people are welcoming the fashion celebrations of autumn with cozy knit sweaters, dresses with boots, and blazers as coats.  But we also like to keep it realistic. Just yesterday we were all enjoying a cozy 70° fall day and then the temperature dropped and reminded us that old man winter is just around the corner. My husband might say I’m exaggerating a bit. 

 

En Chicago. la gente está dando la bienvenida al otoño con jerseys de punto gordo, vestidos con botas y blazers en vez de abrigos. Pero también tenemos que ser realistas. Ayer teníamos una temperatura estupenda de 19 grados, típica de un día de otoño. Pero de repente dió un bajón para recordarnos que el invierno está a la vuelta de la esquina. Mi marido me dirá que exagero un poco pero bueno.

Typically, when the weather drops so unexpectedly low in October, all I can think is keeping warm. Admittedly, I’m a black coat type of girl, a problem I’m trying to fix this season. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like my fashion sense to shine through; this is where a bright scarf comes in place. Just like a lipstick (read about my obsession here) a bright scarf has the capacity to not only add some panache to your outfit; it can also dramatically brighten your face while still keeping you warm. Look for a print or color that complements your skin. I do believe it’s a must have piece for every woman out there…at least those who live in unpredictable weather!

Cada vez que la temperatura baja de manera inesperada en Octubre en lo único que pienso es en como no pasar frío. Honestamente, soy de las de abrigo negro y punto, pero eso es algo que estamos intentando cambiar aquí en Panache esta temporada. Que siempre tire por un abrigo negro, no significa que no permita que mi amor por la moda se refleje de vez en cuando; y es aquí cuando entra en juego la bufanda. Al igual que un pintalabios, una bufanda colorida además de añadi panache a todods tus looks, iluminará tu cara de repente y te mantendrá calentita. Busca un color o un estampado que vaya con tu tono de piel. Esta pieza es un must para todas las mujeres ahí fuera... por lo menos para aquellas que viven en una ciudad con tiempo impredecible!

Aprovechando los últimos rayos

Creo que se debe notar que me resisto a que se acabe el verano. Mientras todo el mundo habla de lo que está pasando en todas las Fashion Weeks internacionales nosotras nos centramos en el momento presente. Tan presente que no puedo ni empezar a hablar de otoño, pero entiendo las ganas de empezar a cambiar algo. Y ése algo son los accesorios. Atrás quedaron los días de collares étnicos con toques de color.

Llevaba tiempo buscando cadenas con medallas. No sólo porque me enamoré de la primera colección de joyas de Dolce & Gabbana que las tenía por todas partes, sino porque siento que me protegen y porque además aportan personalidad al estilo. Cuando estuve en Las Palmas, compré éstas traídas de Italia. Me las pongo siempre juntas y cada día me gustan más. Además, para que no me faltara de nada, añadí a mi colección una pulsera de La Milagrosa (que también está en una de las cadenas)…yo por…no dar dos viajes…;-)

I think it´s probably obvious that I reject the fact that summer is coming to an end. While everyone else is busy talking about what is happening in the International Fashion Weeks, we like to focus on the present. I'm so in the present, I can't even begin to talk about fall, but I do understand the desire for change. And that change for me comes in the form of accessories. Gone are the days of chunky, colorful and ethnic summer jewelry.

It's been a while since I've been looking for chains with medals. Not only because I fell in love with the first Dolce & Gabbana jewelry collection, but also because I feel they add personality to my style while protecting me. When I was in Las Palmas, I bought the necklaces seen above, which were brought over from Italy. I always wear them together and each day that goes by, I love them even more. I also ended up buying the bracelet with La Milagrosa (which is also the virgin in one of the chains) to my collection... you know... just so I don't have to make another trip. ;-)
